Any person aged 65 years and over who no longer wants, or feels able to continue living in their own home or alone.
Depending on your circumstances, your local council might pay for all or some of the costs of providing residential care. To determine how much, if any, of the costs it will pay, your local council will conduct an assessment.
In England and Wales, local councils have a legal duty to assess anyone who appears to need care and support, regardless of how much money the person has. This is called a care needs assessment. It takes into account your circumstances, abilities and needs, and determines what sort of care and support is best for you.
Sometimes, the NHS can help to pay towards residential care for people who have specific medical or mobility needs.
We accept private clients, and those through local authorities. Our private fees are in-line with Cumbria County Council, meaning if you pay for your own care you don't pay more.
The care home has a staff team of approximately 27 people. All members of the team are considered to be care givers regardless of what department they work in. We're all here for one reason - to look after you. Some of us have different specialities, like doing the cooking or the washing, but we're all here to work together to ensure quality care.
Everyone has their own bedroom, so they have somewhere to go to be by themselves and have some privacy.
We also have two bedrooms that could be shared; ideal if you're a couple looking for to share a room.
You will always have the one-to-one support you need, when you need it, as defined in your personal care plan. Some other types of support might be shared with other residents, i.e. at mealtimes.
There will always be someone around to help you, we have staff on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Many people wish for Virginia Lodge to manage and administer their medication, it's one less thing for someone to worry about, however, if preferred you can manage your own medication.
We maintain a clear policy and stringent procedures in accordance with the Department of Health and NICE guidelines for all aspects of handling residents medication. All medication is administered by trained staff.
All drugs and medication must be handed to the senior person on duty at the time of admission for monitoring purposes, regardless of if you are managing your own medicines.
All care homes and care services are inspected and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England and the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW).
This means Virginia Lodge are subject to regular visits by independent inspectors to make sure we continue to meet minimum standards of care and support. Inspection findings and reports are made public in both England and Wales, so you can find out how all our residential care facilities are doing at any time.
Our staff are trained to deal with all types of medical emergencies and are highly qualified to look after the needs of all our residents. If a particular complication means a different type of care, for example Nursing care, should be required, we will discuss this with you and your family and make every effort to make the transition to a nursing home as smooth as possible.
Every incoming resident is assessed prior to admission to ensure they receive the care best suited for their needs. Your family or friends may be involved in this process if you so choose. An individual care plan is then created which sets out how staff will meet your needs. Care plans are reviewed monthly and will be updated when requirements change.
To visit a resident already at Virginia Lodge please call to arrange a visiting time. We have protected mealtimes, and currently we are still operating reduced visiting numbers in order to keep the risk of COVID19 as minimal as possible.
Here at Virginia Lodge we actively encourage our residents to be as independent and social as possible. However, many people also find comfort in knowing that care is available around the clock.
We encourage residents to bring any furniture and other personal belongings from home to individualise their room.
All our bedrooms are maintained to a high standard, and we ensure that any redecoration is carried out with minimal inconvenience to the resident. We also offer a choice of décor where appropriate.
